There was another treasure hunt with All Treasure Hunt! This time it was in Tavira, and highlights a lot of the main points of interest in the town. We got together an even bigger group of friends and went out to explore the town. The experience taught us a lot about the history of Tavira, where we embarked on a mission to find the Secrets to Enlightenment. We were told we would collect an assortment of ribbons with words on them, and when we were finished, the ribbons would give us our final clue to the Secret of Enlightenment.

To start, we met near the river where we would start our journey where we met the Guardian of the Secrets of Humanity. Our group was called Bodhi’s Crew because we had Bodhi as our mascot. We got our first clue and ribbon and started our journey.

Along our route we visited multiple historical buildings that are the basis of the history of Tavira. Our first clue and ribbon was at the Church of São Paulo where we had to search inside the church to find a character that represented the past.

After finding our first clue and ribbon

From the church, we went off to the Roman Bridge. The Roman Bridge is in the center of Tavira and goes over the Rio Gilão. The current bridge was built in 1663 but it was constructed over a bridge from the 3rd century that connected Faro to Castro Marim. The bridge gave us our next 2 clues and answers and led us to the Town Hall.

After the town hall we made our way towards the original castle wall. We didn’t know where the original wall was though and we went to the wrong place, so we had trouble finding the answer.

Inside the original castle walls is another church, The Church of Mercy and nearby are some archaeological remains. We got our next 2 clues and answers from this area.

Next up was another church. (There are a lot of churches in Tavira) We had 3 more clues in this area. Some were on the church itself and another was from a Member of the Order who was waiting for us in the garden and where we had to search for this ribbon.

The next clue led us to a former convent which is now a hotel. We had to find an Enchanted Moorish woman. We had to disenchant her, they recommended using words of love or flattery but instead we decided to offer up a sacrifice of a strong, sturdy man (my husband, Karl) In exchange, we received another ribbon.

We went on to the next place, another church, where we would receive our final ribbon. We had to search all around the church.

When we found it we could finally make our way to the final destination. We put our ribbons in order to decipher the message which would give us access at the secret door. Once inside we had to write the word that represented the city. If the Guardian understood it we would be given access to a locked box, which contained the treasure and the Secrets to Enlightenment. We were successful and we opened the box and learned the Secrets. I would tell you what they are but then I might get in trouble, so you will have to do the treasure hunt yourself if you wish to find them out. We were Knighted by the Guardian of the Secrets of Humanity and received our prize.

The treasure with the Secrets Of Enlightenment

The night was so much fun. It was such a great way to learn about some of the history of my new home. There is so much about Tavira that I have yet to learn, and what better way to do it than with friends. I absolutely recommended doing a treasure hunt with All Treasure Hunt if you get the opportunity! I can’t wait until the next one!
