We took part in the Castro Marim Night Treasure Hunt with some friends and it was so much fun. Castro Marim is a small village about 20 minutes away from Tavira, close to the border of Spain. It is a super cute little town with an old castle from the late 1200’s. There is also the fort of São Sebastião de Castro Marim.  Within the castle walls there is a church and even the old torture chambers, which are actually pretty gruesome. Outside of the castle is the old tavern, which is still operational. The structure is still original and walking in feels like you are walking back in time. You can even dress up in one of their many traditional costumes. They serve mead and beer and some dishes. It’s definitely a really cool place, this was my 3rd visit!

The treasure hunt was hosted by AllTreasureHunt. We started out at the center square where our group, the Senescal Squires, encountered the Leader of the Order who explained the game and gave us our first clue.

Our first clue led us to an open door into a shop where we were searched for our next clue.

We then trekked on to continue the journey. Along the way we had incredible views of the castle at night.

Along the journey, we had to have a member of our team shoot a bow and arrow to get our next clue.

Our next clue took us near this windmill where we found another Member of the Order. She performed a song bath ceremony and at the end we were given our next clue.

Next, we entered the castle. There were a couple clues in here, including a belly dancer who we danced with.

From there we went on to find the key, which would lead us to the tavern. At the tavern, we were told to enjoy ourselves and drink and eat. We had some mead and they set out cheese plates with delicious cheeses, honey, and jam, along with the tastiest tomatoes.

During the merriment, we had to search for a box. This box would be opened by the key of one of the groups. Sadly, we did not have the magic key.

After the box was opened, all the groups were Knighted by the Leader of the Order and given our tokens and prizes. We continued to eat and drink until the tavern closed. It was such a fun experience. The next event will be held in Tavira, so we are looking forward to attending it! If you are ever in the Algarve, you should check out AllTreasureHunt , you will absolutely enjoy it!
