Spice mixes aren’t very common here in Portugal and some of the spices that are available are different from what we would find in America. One of the most popular items people from America tend to bring with them when they move are their favorite spice mixes, but then they run out and it’s hard to get more so its best to learn to make your own. (Read this post to see what else I made sure to bring with me)

I use taco seasoning for multiple dishes including chicken tortilla soup, southwestern zucchini boats, chili and an amazing sauce I make. (I don’t use the spice for tacos though, I hate it on tacos 😂). I brought a large container of Lanes Fiesta Taco Seasoning with me but we ran out of it pretty quickly so I made my own. It’s actually really simple to make and way more cost effective. Here is my recipe:

Taco Seasoning  (makes about an ounce worth)

1 Tablespoon Chili Powder (spice level is up to you, if you want it even more spicy you can add extra or take some out if you prefer it mild)

1.5 teaspoons Ground Cumin

1 teaspoon Sea Salt

1 teaspoon Black Pepper (I don’t like pepper so I leave it out)

½ teaspoon Paprika

¼ teaspoon Garlic Powder

¼ teaspoon Onion Powder

¼ teaspoon crushed Red Pepper Flakes

¼ teaspoon Dried Oregano

Mix everything together and store in a jar. Super easy! You can double or triple the recipe and make a large batch at a time, it will keep well.

After you make your taco seasoning, why not make some tortillas and have your own Mexican feast! Hope you enjoy this recipe!
